The Strangest Marriage Habits in Oman.

The world is full of odd and strange things. Things people do or believe in and one of these believes and customs is the way people get married around the globe.

In Green Land, the husband would go to the pride house, pull her hard from her hair and drag her to his home.

In Pacific, the woman dowry would be a bunch of rats. The less beauty the woman has the less rats offered to her.

In Jawa Island to get a marriage license, the couple would have to bring 25 rat tails. The Jawa’s Leader issued this law to reduce the number of rats in the island and which has become dangerous to their crops.

In Burma, the husband pull down the pride to the ground and try to make a whole in her ear by a needle. If she screamed from pain, no one would step forward and help her until she bleeds.

In Juibess Tribe in Africa. The pride is forced to make a whole in her tongue to stop her from mumbling or talking too much. The husband would put the wedding ring in a line which passes thru her tongue. He would pull the line every time she wants to talk.

In Taihiti, the woman would put a red rose behind her left ear if she was looking for a husband. once she finds him, she moves the rose to the right ear.

Well, the list goes on and on. Oman is just like any other country in the world has its own style, right??. Omani people believe in stuff which other people find it strange too. I’d appreciate it here if you can help me bringing up some of these habbits.

In Sur, Instead of taking the pride to the husband’s house, the husband himself would be taken ( Zeffah) to the pride house where he stays there for three days or a week and after that he goes back to his father’s.

In some villages in Dhakiliah region, a Chicken would be killed on the couples legs before they go inside the room. They believe it brings good luck to the new couple. The husband would put his leg on the pride’s leg and some one would kill ( yedhba7) the chicken on them where the blood is all over their legs. Some people kill goats or sheep’s instead.

These are some examples only..tell me what odd things you have in your regions????

    • all of these habits are changing to imitate westren customs in marriage. For example, the pride now wearnig white dress and it can be seen by others . Before only the groom saw it. etc

In out place the man (groom) stay in his home, and his family go to ask for the pride to be taken to the groom. this is what i saw in my place.
      .

i like this one :D:D:D i hope to see it one of our customs veryyyy soon :D:D just kidding

well most of you are aware of marriage customs in muscat :) , nothing to bring up,

but i heared that in some places, the do ask for some kind of evidence like blood or some thing,

      sounds silly to me.

thanks alot brother for your hot topic,,,especially we are now by the door step to enter this world :D

i think i will apply the Green Land one :D:D:D:D
    • thanks bin Al hajri
yes Indeed the world is changing and we are becoming Westners day after day. I just wish we become like them in terms of Human Rights and technology...

Shame we got to loose some of these habits. I remember the wedding practices at my time, let say 10 or 15 years ago, they were more fun...

      Magid
yes I also heard about that in some part of the Batina region...That's very insulting to both the woman and the man.

One of the funny things is also what happen in Dhofar region
I heard they put the pride before a week the wedding night in a room where she's not allowed to go out...during that week they will be feeding her lots and lots of faty food and the ultimate goal is put some weight on her. I guess they believe that men in Dhofar like their women to be a bit over weight....

      Is that true??
    • Really REALLy interesting Topic, NewWay

      :)

You know, its all relative. What we think is "strange" in other cultures, they consider it normal. and vice versa. for example, western's find it very very strange that our wedding consisit of two parties: one for men and the other for women. they probably might consider it an unnecessary luxury

      :)

Most the practices you mentioned are really very insulting for women
      ~!@@ad

At least in our weddings women's dignity is preserved ... relatively speaking of course
      #e

True, NewWay, about the Dhofari weddings, lol... thier men really like fat women and consider it very beautiful.. how i knew that? i remember once in the Gym there was a young Dhofari lady excersicing.. we were chatting.. and i adviced her on some tips for loosing weight.. she reacted very shokingly and yelled.. NO i dont want to loose weight.. or else i will never get married.. lol.. even though she was not skinny..

In our weddings .. an egg is broken in the feet of the bride and the groom.. no animals killed..
      just an egg
      :)

Another practice we do, is that all the unmaried girls will go up to the bride and start pinching her on her leg (hands must go under the bride dress for sure)... its believed it brings good luck and good husbands for the girls..

      :)
    • yes MR. Unfaithful. You are right. The only thing that makes those practices go on is that their people still believe it's the right thing they do,,

We glad that we still keep Woman's Dignity preserved. Breaking an egg won't insult any of them, but asking for a blood prove does..

Yeh I also heard that..It might sound strange to us what happen in Dhofar but they look at it differently. But even in Dhofar things are changing ...

The strange thing is that when I was at college, students used to admire the Dhofari Bodies ( no insulting)..

      Anybody from Dahirah region here..???

what's happening out there...Have no clue??
