Oman is changing, a scary thought.
Oman has been a conservative country until 1970 when HM Sultan Qaboos took over the crown. By that I mean that Islam and tribal traditions played a vital rule in forming people’s thoughts and believes. You know what I talk about. Back then you can’t find a boy and a girl flirting and playing with each other, not especially if they were teenagers.
I’m not talking about the Discrimination between the two genders here; I’m talking about this because I love my country. When you hear other people from different other countries talking about our own Omani Women in a bad way and describing them with sick descriptions, I can’t stand it really. Here I bring this up for your attention to discuss about it and see whether we can find the reasons and the solutions for it. Just to make your life easier of which I’m trying to talk about here, please listen to my story. In short, we were walking (me, my cousin and his wife ) on the beach last week. It was in Qurum just behind the Grand Hayat beach. Anyhow, we were walking with our dinner of course until we got to the chairs at the end of the walking path. We sat down there talking normally, laughing and enjoying the meal. There were at least three or four chairs and there was about a meter distance between each chair (very close to each other). Suddenly, two Omani boys (dressed like Omanis with Dishdasha’s and Kuma of course) they came each with his girlfriend. They sat just besides us and we didn’t say anything as it was a public beach. The worst part of them that they both started to kiss each other in front of us, flirting and touching in a weird ways. I felt so embarrassed and I was astounded. I know that I have encountered with similar situations but not with my family. We all didn’t feel comfortable at all, and I was making comments and made sure he was listening to them. Of course he was too pride of what he was doing in the name of FREEDOM that our government granted him. He belives that kissing and even making love in public places is ok to him and his girlfriend. This habit is rapidly increasing in a scary manner and it seems it won’t stop until we find ourselves in a deep trouble. I’m quite positive that some of you have seen such things too. Four main questions to be raised and discussed here and I wish you all participate so we can all benefit.
What would you do if you were in my place?
Is this only happening in Muscat or all other regions got infected??
What are the solutions to bring up the good image of Oman again??
Who’s responsible for such actions, is it us (citizens) or government or the whole world??
Looking forward to your help
