Dell has identified a potential issue associated with certain batteries sold with some Dell models including Latitude, Inspiron, XPS and Dell Precision Mobile Workstation notebook computers. Dell is voluntarily recalling certain Dell-branded batteries with cells manufactured by Sony and offering free replacements for these batteries. Under rare conditions, it is possible for these batteries to overheat, which could pose a risk of fire.
How to identify if your Battery is affected
Power down your laptop, do not "standby" or "hibernate", remove the battery and note the 20 character PPID at the back (below the long barcode).
Visit https://www.dellbatteryprogram.com/Default.aspx to confirm if your battery is affected.
If your battery is affected, DO NOT leave your laptop unattended with the power on and the battery installed.
Request of replacement battery
In the body of the email provide the Service Tag of your laptop and your 20 character battery PPID.
A replacement battery may take 4 weeks to arrive, from the request date.
Notes
If it is unclear whether there is a letter or number (eg. O/0 or 1/I) included in the PPID then use 0 (zero) and 1 (one) as there are no letter O and I in any PPID.
If you have already requested a replacement battery through the Dell site, there is no need to follow this process.
