SPRING
It’s breeze wipes winter’s sleep from Nature’s eye.
Pale sunshine slowly hastens snow’s retreat.
Young lambs seeking life’s food with plaintive cry
Do snuggle up and gorge their mother’s teat;
Fresh primrose life shows first in mossy place,
Broad leaves surrounding petals small and neat,
Announcing spring -- Its tiny welcome face
Peeps shyly through a woodland’s leafy peat.
Swift courting birds their nests rebuild again
In bush and tree with colours reimbued.
Clear streams, fresh filled with winter’s welcome rain
Do hasten past such signs of life renewed.
When Spring begins Earth’s romance with the Sun
So Nature’s yearly cycle is begun
