Description
Purpose of the Job
To manage, maintain and support PDO’s Storage Management systems and associated network infrastructure elements. To plan and implement hardware and software components installations related to the data storage management systems; to coordinate the implementation of the components where appropriate.
Experience/Qualifications Needed
· BSc in Computing, Technical, Mathematics, Scientific or Engineering disciplines, or minimum BTEC/ MTIC Diploma.
· A minimum of 2 years experience in systems engineering. Knowledge of high performance computing systems; scalable, parallel architectures; and basic aspects of the UNIX/LINUX and Windows Operating systems.
· Knowledge of advanced data storage management technologies and high-speed network interfaces – A minimum of 2 years working with Network Appliance Storage (NetApps)
· Knowledge in capacity and infrastructure planning/management.
· Knowledge of advanced problem resolution procedures and systems/network/data securities
· Knowledge in Project management.
· Knowledge in the Database Management Systems especially Oracle and MS-SQL Server.
· Team player, strong interpersonal and communication skills, high level of customer orientation.

Key Duties and Tasks
Plan Operational & Systems Support Activities
· Manage the development of comprehensive, business- aligned annual work plans for the Data Storage Support team and propose budgets for the work programme.
· Execute and manage the planning of computing infrastructure fallback processes, services and procedures as well as plans for regular testing of same.
· Participate in the planning and the development of the data storage and recoveries strategies.
· Provide input to the plan for the integrated computing asset integrity programme comprising preventive maintenance of all key computing assets.
· Provide input to the identification/piloting of new computing infrastructure processes and procedures against clear improvement objectives, within agreed time scales, resources and budget & analyse and evaluate pilot feedback.
· Contribute to the processes to ensure that PDO computing infrastructure is secured (Trust Domain compliant). Ensure that the data storage management is secured; any potential risks are identified and mitigated.
· Participate and contribute to the processes to ensure that computing infrastructure roadmaps are established and in line with business demands and growth.
· Participate and contribute to the processes to ensure that computing infrastructure capacity planning is performed for designated services within the Data Storage Management and Corporate databases areas.
· Execute and manage computing infrastructure implementation projects
Execute, Monitor & Review Infrastructure Performance
· Execute infrastructure systems support best practices in the data storage management systems to keep alignment with technology development, global initiatives and importantly with business needs and growth.
· Contribute and manage the process for the execution of systems support annual work plans related to the Data Storage Management systems.
· Monitor, review and report on Infrastructure Integrity and Capacity in relation to known business requirements.
· Monitor and report on Data Storage Management systems’ performance with regard to Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Operation Level Agreements (OLAs). Provide the collected statistical data and trends to relevant capacity and infrastructure planning teams within the function.
· Contribute and manage the process for the proactive periodic Infrastructure vulnerability assessment including Trust Domain compliancy.
· Contribute and manage the process for driving the realisation of asset and process improvements initiatives.
HSE Management
· Contribute to the process to ensure compliance with responsibilities and accountabilities summarised in the HSE Policy, Commitment and Accountabilities booklet (the latest version)
· Contribute to the process for the adherence to the requirements of the HSE management System as specified in the CP 122 as HSE – MS Procedure and items cascaded from this document by the team leader
Resource management
· Assist in Identifying resource gaps in the specific systems engineering activities associate with the data storage management services and contribute towards closing such gaps.
· Participate on the closing of some technical and non-technical competence gaps by mentoring and coaching colleagues.
Challenges
· Maintaining in-depth technical skills and keep abreast of rapidly changing IT technologies.
· Aligning many interdependent data storage management activities for delivery of seamless efficient services.
· Understanding the many internal interfaces and building relationships and networks necessary for delivering world class computing infrastructure specific services.
Key competencies required
· In-depth technical skills in a Storage Management technologies Centralized data servers - NAS, SAN, DAS, CIFS, NFS, RAID, Fibre Channel, iSCSI)
· Ability in gathering/determining customer requirements; planning and designing data structures on storage environment.
· Ability to interpret operational needs and analyze complex problems; develop integrated and creative solutions
· Ability to monitor and reporting system usage and performance statistics; understand the impacts of system alterations.
· Good communication and interpersonal skills - Excellent Customer Relationship management skills.
· Good project management skills
· Good overview of EP business directions
