      Optimism

       This world is full of possibilities, and each one is different. Also different are each persons reaction to them. Some view a possibility negatively while another will see it as positive. Everyone sees some possibilities as good and others as bad. However, a certain person will tend to either think most possibilities are bad or mostly good. Those who think that most possibilities are good are called optimists, those that think most are not good are pessimists. This now explained, we can ask: what does being optimistic result in? It firstly will result in an optimist being more likely to seize hold of an offered possibility, this will possibly result in an optimistic person doing more, and vice versa with a pessimist. Optimists will also be more likely to be happy or at least content, since they "look on the bright side of life", and pessimists are more likely to be discontented. A good example of how optimism and pessimism affect a person is Doctor Seuss's Green Eggs and Ham. As long as the main character only focuses on how he thinks (but does not know) that green eggs and ham taste bad, he is unhappy. Sam I Am, being an optimist, thought that the protagonist would benefit from tasting the eggs, even if he didn't like them. Sam I Am was consistently happy. Optimist, even though it may result in more happiness, is not neccesarily better than pessimism. Pessimists claim that they are being realistic and protecting themselves. Certain people may say that they are afraid or boring, but they see benefit in protecting themselves, while optimists see benefit in trying instead of turning away. Optimism is simply seeing possibilities as good, which can result in more happiness. It is not being unrealistic or dangerous, but is based on the thought that possibilities are more likely to be good than bad.

      Pessimism


      Many people use pessimistic as a word with a negative connotation. I personally think it could be otherwise. Without pessimism, this world would be drastically changed. No one could be there to find out things you would need to critique: Everyone would be perceived as perfect, but would have much more unknown faults. Pessimism really is for the better. People have benefited from the negative outlooks of some people. If too many people were always happy, life wouldn't be as interesting as it now. With pessimism comes a certain streak of mischief, and that mischief leads to interesting happenings. Also, pessimism is the basis for many funny quotes about life, marriage, family, and other topics. Sometimes pessimism even helps you to have a better day. If you are about to go and rob a bank, then you think of all the things that could go wrong- then you wouldn't rob the bank and would come to your senses. All in all, pessimism really helps this world to become a better place. I hope everyone can see the optimistic side of pessimism and clearly notice how it benefits the population
