Angels In The Mist
by WhiteEagle
While out on a hike near Nieves Point, I came to a small clearing where I took a pause in my exploration.
I took a bit of water and began to sketch some of the surrounding foliage.
I had never taken this route, and wanted to put down some of it on paper, I took a few photos as well.
Continuing with my journey, I stopped to have a short argument with a squirrel. After a crossed look and a bit of rebuttal for almost stepping on his tail as he ran across the path, I continued on.
I noticed up ahead a trail that forked off to the right, I marked my path and continued on. I was startled by the rushing and view of the most awesome waterfall. I was coming down between two hills, there was a blue, green and red tint to the water.
I made myself up the side of the cliffs, so as to get behind the water coming down.
There was a cavern and I followed it back, I came across stones the color of turquoise and bright multicolored stones of red and green.
I had never seen anything like it.
I tried to remove some, and with each attempt, a roaring echo came through the cavern with a fast and strong burst of wind.
It nearly knocked me off my feet each time, I thought this may be a coincidence.
But I decided to end my attempts just in case.
I continued on, and as I came to the end of the cavern, I was completely amazed at what I saw next. There were young female creatures around of crystal blue ponds, and they had nary any clothing on at all. They were running, some were bathing and gathering fruit it looked like. I approached carefully, as not to disturb. I followed a stair case that seemed to be carved into the rock, along the edge of a surrounding wall. I came in behind them and settled in the cover of some large ferns, that had the smell of strong mint.
I continued to watch a group until almost sunset, and took some photos with my zoom lens. I stayed in the caverns that night far enough back as not to be detected hopefully.
While I rested I made some notes and jotted down a few more sketches.
The following morning, when I awoke I almost jumped out of my pants. There were three of those female beings around me.
they had a light complexion, yet there was a glow about their skin surrounded by a silky like brown hair.
Their eyes ranged from a lite green, to a dark blue in color. I tried to communicate with them, but I did not seem to be getting any where, they would tug at my arm and were examining the material in my clothes. One finally came up to me with a bowl of green fruit I suppose. The taste was quite pleasant. A cross of Guava and that of strawberry it seemed.
Eventually I heard a soft voice from the direction of one of them. but their lips did not move. The tallest one took my hand softly and led me out of the cavern and down the rock steps. We traveled through a large wooded area, and there just ahead was a whole community of these creatures. They were of various heights, though none very tall. Many skin hues were noticed, as well as eye color.
They all had the same delicate way about their stature, and that glow about their face. There were male as well as female, and one eventually came forward, and again with no movement of the mouth communicated that he was the leader of the group.
I was told That I could stay for a while, to eat and rest.
But not to take any thing from here to the other side, for this place was sacred.
This place had not been defiled, like there, I stayed a short time longer, and made my journey home.
I began thinking after the first day home, that this could all be just some sort of wild dream.
But just then I remembered the photos I took, so I went to the dark room and began developing the trip. I laughed as I saw once again the angry little squirrel and the beauty of the hills behind me that I shot. But the frames of the waterfall and caverns was just blank. My sketches as well were no longer in my pad. I thought more and more that I was having a night mare, of maybe I had finally lost my mind. I went to visit my friend Mike, and asked if he had ever seen the waterfall or the caverns. He said there was nothing like that in this area, he had been all through that neck of the woods.
And then commented that I had been working to hard. He continued to say that there were just some old dull looking blue green cliffs and some red shrubbery growing about it's base. I began questioning my mentality, and decided that I would just have to make another journey and see for myself.
First I had to have my annual check up in town, My physician noticed I had a cough and slight wheeze.
I assured him it was just probably an allergy, but he decided to take an x-ray to be safe.
He came back and showed me the picture with a mass in the lower part of my right lung, he took a CT scan and in two days, as I continually waited nervously and called for the results.
The scan showed a cancer, and would need further examination and treatment.
I went home feeling very down trodden, but eventually the thought of my return trip to the woods, controlled my thoughts. I tossed and turned most of the night, unable to relate to the news, and this diagnosis of Cancer.
I got my back pack and supplies ready, and drove off to the point I was before. I started my trek, I came to the fork in the road, but when I looked further there were just old grayish blue cliffs.
The ragged looking weeds red in color were there as well, just as Mike had described. This was truly puzzling to me, I sat down at the base of the rocks.
I took out an apple and pondered the situation a bit more. I decided to journey a little further, and take a short snooze neath a group of old oak trees.
I was feeling a little wheezy and short of breath anyway.
I was asleep for maybe a couple of hours, I could only determine from the position of the sun as I did not look at my watch before the rest.
When I opened my eyes and began to stretch, there were those creatures again.
Three female types as before.
They offered me some of the green fruit again, and a drink of some yellow looking nectar, they talked again without any lip movement.
They relayed to me not to ever mention of this place, as I looked around there again was the waterfalls as well as a large group of these beings in a clearing ahead.
I asked are you just part of a dream I am having, or are you real?
I heard in a soft faint voice, you must only believe and have faith.
We will be there to protect the forest, and assist those in need with the will of good and the gentle in the spirit. They again explained to keep this place a secret, and that we can only be seen by individuals when we feel they are just in need.
You will only see the barren and dying soil, and the lifeless stones.
This is in remembrance of how your kind has destroyed so much.
Now go on about your return, and believe and maybe someday when your spirit is truly free you may join us here.
To be forever youthful and have an existence of harmony, with us in the mist of eternity's dreams. We will take leave of you now, but be forever mindful of your heart and never cease to dream.
Later that week after returning home, I made my way down to the doctor's office for a follow up appointment.
He drew some blood, and listened to my breathing. And as he continued I realized I had not one episode of wheezing or shortness of breath since I left the woods.
The physician took another x-ray of my chest and was totally amazed and related to me the news, that there was no mass detected in my lungs at all.
He brought out the previous pictures to compare, and was just amazed by the befuddled look on his face.
He even stated to me that this was some sort of miracle, or something. I went home and began working feverishly for some reason to start a painting of the waterfalls, I continued to add three angelic like forms in the work. In the hand of the middle being I added a glow from her hand. I called my picture the gift.
That was some years back, but the picture hangs yet in my den. Not a day goes by, that I do not think of them, and I truly do believe they were angels and no one will ever change my mind.
