Good Day,
As we approach Veterans Day 2003 let’s keep in mind all those past, present and future who volunteer to serve and protect.
While it’s sometimes hard to stay focused when we hear all the doom and gloom on the daily news reports…I’d like to share with you part of a letter sent by CPL Andrew Brokish. Andy is the nephew of Sheila Rupp who works in both the MIS and Marketing Dept here in the GO. Andy writes:
“Seriously, Iraq is not as bad as the news makes it out to be. There are roughly 140,000 soldiers in Iraq. Yes, there are soldiers getting hurt every day but hey, you know what, it’s war. The news does not focus on anything positive, and after my 15 days home I don’t think I can stand the news anymore. The majority of Iraqi kids don’t throw rocks, they wave and I have pictures to prove it. The majority of Iraqi people do want us there. They feel free to build up their buildings and paint them cool colors (hot pink is my fav…and it’s a real popular color)
Iraqi artists paint awesome murals of stuff, birds, flowers, whatever they want cuz they are not restricted anymore. They don’t have to paint a portrait of Saddam, they paint whatever they want. They are very good too (I have pictures to prove it) the people have more electricity now and that’s good for us and them cuz we run a lot of things off the Tikrit power. People have satellite TV (I think this was on the news one day but I will say it again and they do have some cool channels too).
There are only a real small percentage of people that don’t what us there. And yes, they get us from time to time. Every time they get us, we might not raid their house but we will raid their buddy’s and one day his buddy is going to get sick of his door getting kicked in and will tell us where the bad guys are.
In conclusion, things are going good and will continue. I am proud to say that I am part of the transformation of a country.”
Hopefully our leaders will minimize the “politics” of this issue and stay focused on the long-term goal; the war on terrorism our long-term security, the safety of our families, and our freedoms.
Let’s keep Andy and everyone who is serving in our thoughts and prayers!
God Bless America
Sincerely,
Dick Schmid
