My Hobby


My hobby is reading. I read story books, magazines, newspapers and any kind of material that I find interesting.

This hobby got started when I was a little boy. I had always wanted my parents to read fairy tales and other stories to me. Soon they got fed up and tired of having to read to me continually. So as soon as I could, I learned to read. I started with simple ABC books. Soon I could read simple fairy tales and other stories. Now I read just about anything that is available.

Reading enables me to learn about so many things that I would otherwise not know. I learned about how people lived in bygone days of magic and mystery. I learned about the wonders of the world, space travel, human achievements,
gigantic whales, tiny viruses and other fascinating things of our world.

The wonderful thing about reading is that I do not have to learn things the hard way. For example, I do not have to catch a disease to know that it can kill me. I know the danger so I can avoid it. Also I do not have to go deep into the jungle to learn about the tiger. I can read all about it in a book.

Books provide the reader with so much information and facts. They have certainly helped me in my daily life. I am better equipped to cope with living. Otherwise I would go about ignorantly learning things the hard way.

So I continue to read. Besides being more informed about the world, I also spend my time profitably. It is indeed a good hobby.

I have to get up early in the morning to see the beauty when it wakes up to the new day. I love to sit out on my patio and watch the morning begin to unfold while I drink my coffee. During this time I plan my day's events or chores. The best things I get to do are going to my vegetable garden and see what has grown to maturity. My hobby is considered by many to be a lot of work, which is true. It's the love of what I do that gives me pleasure while doing it. I also like to watch the plants grow and flourish because of my efforts. The array of vegetables I get to harvest makes the experience even better.
I love to prepare the ground in the early spring and when the temperatures are right, begin to sow the seeds and plant the tender sprouts. The tending of these small plants is fun but you never know what the weather will throw at you. So, being prepared for storms and high winds is necessary for the tender plants. A good watering in the morning and evenings helps the plants grow and not get scorched by the hot sun. Watering during the day can ruin the tender plants and scorch the leaves under the sun's rays. If it rains then you can save the expense of a large water bill. Plus the plants grow much better with the rainwater than the water out city gives us. It is a great thing to watch your flower garden growing during the spring and summer months as well. Each time a rose bush blooms it give you pride and pleasure in the beauty of the flower. The need good soil to give those beautiful bushes the nutrients needed for the roses. I like to keep plenty of mulch around them and my other flowering bushes to hold as much moisture in the soil as possible, during the summer months. In the early spring I trim back the dead branches and give the bushes a chance for new growth. A good feeding of rose food once a month helps the bushes develop sturdy limbs. Sometimes, I will go to a local store that has too many plants and have them on sale. I like to get the one's that look like they are about to give up the ghost. Many times I'm able to save them and bring these poor plants back to life. I have the best reward from these because I can watch them come back to life. There are many people who suggest they are just too lazy for this type of hobby. I understand how they could feel that way. To do this is fulfilling as well as rewarding. It also lets me enjoy the fruits of my labors when walking around the yard with all its beauty. Hard work and a relaxing atmosphere are good for the health and soul. اتمنى أكون أفدتك أخي
