      I am seeking for your advice!

      Dear members

      Someone is seeking for your advice in the following problem:



      I graduated from Sultan Qaboos University as a physicist and currently working for PDO as a petroleum engineer. I have a plan to do master in Petroleum engineering since I am now a petroleum engineer but I am afraid to go for it because I am not sure that I will succeed on it.

      I want to do the master to understand my job more but some people advised me to forget it because I will learn things by time.



      What is your advice to me?

      Shall I go for the master or just forget it?

      Nice to see you back. I guess your topic is general rather than individual problem. I hope to see serious and positive discussion from our dear brothers and sisters

      Let me ask, and allow me to address my discussion by using (YOU)
      Were you sure you would pass your first degree in Physics? Well, what ever was the case, you passed and what? got a fantastic job too
      I believe that your experience, and all you have gained will enhance your knowledge and will assist you doing your Masters easily and not the other way round

      What other said could be right in some way, you will learn things by time, but in fact you are not going to do your Masters to know your job, you are going for it to know more and more, you already know the job

      Look around you, if all ok, no obstacles, GO FOR IT

      i think that what Tenderness said is totally right! I actually known someone who did a degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, However ended up doing a Masters in Petroleum Engineering. He actually at that time had no knowledge what so ever in this area of study! I dont think he had major problems passing! At the end it is how much work and effort you put into something

      Having prior knowledge about the area of study would be very handy and would make things even easier. So, i would say, Go for it

      Thanks for your replies.
      Let me be honest. In fact, the problem is personally related to me because I am talking about a real problem that I am facing currently.
      Well.. the idea is frightening me because I loved physics from my heart and that’s I was able to succeed on it. But PE? I am not sure!! I am afraid to do the master on something which is totally different from my interest than I fail.
      In my work, defiantly, I don’t come across all the PE branches as will happen in the master and that’s why I am hesitate

      Thank you very much for encouraging me but i am still thinking. It is a direction to a future so i need to have a deep think before going for it.
      My master will be for 3 years because i will be working and studying at the same time)2 days in the university for master and 3 days on job )!!

      We don't always get chances in our lives, the good chances might be once in our lives and you already have a chance now to do your master..So my advice to you my dear sister as the rest of the members told you..take it and don't hesitate ..because if you miss this chance you may regret later and will hardly have it..
      I tell you that because my aunt have a chance to do her master but she postpone it because she was hesitated and now she really regrets because she is trying to do the master and asking the ministry to help her,,But nobody listening..She starts asking the permission to do the master since 4 years but nothing change..
      So don't waste this chance my dear sister and good luck to you and i recommand you to pray صلاة الاستخارة

      thanks alot for your valuable advice.
      i prayed that prayer and as you can see i still don't have the full enthusiasm to do the master. my feelings are in between now but i am thinking to go for it and if it is going to be a wrong descion then it will be cancelled by time.

      Again I wish all luck my dear sister and i am sure that you will do it but you have to be optemestic and have a strong faith and what you are going to do..So don't lose your faith and your confidence and i am sure you will pass it and you will have the master in a short time..And you will like your new studies in Petroleum engineering ;)

      I will see later what the days are hiding for me!! I might do it and I might not.
      It depends on our God desire.

      For the time being, I feel that I need it and I will go for it but I am not sure later!

      Yes...don't be fool.....GO FOR YOUR HIGHER STUDIEs...

      JUST ONE QUESTION, HOW MANY YEARS OF EXPERIENCE DO YOU HAVE NOW??? and DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE THAT KNOWLEDGE TO TAKE A MASTER DEGREE..??

      well...having so much knowledge will just make it easier for you...If you are knew to the work, then I advice you should stay a bit and work in PDO until you get some exerience....
      but that will not change the fact that you actually want to go for Master...
      The desire, the need, the emption you have will break walls and will move mountains untill you get that Master...
      But once you get it...we will all need a small party from you...Just cake and Pepsi...no more...

      Wish you luck...Go to SQU, find those guys who did actually master in the same field and ask them...talk to them and gain more knowledge which will enable you to make the right decision,...

      Well it is true you’re going to learn a lots of things step by step and that will take you long time and you will be faraway from the colleague who had spent two years in master (If you benchmark with one who has done Master). Especially in PDO
      I’ve an experience on that. In regards to the specialist, believe me it does not mater if you have your BENG in physicist. Just go for it and never miss the chance cause you may not get it again. Since you have done you degree means you have the basic for engineering. I have my MSc in pipeline engineering and I have done by flexible learning not full time which has to be tough but I have already managed to pass. So forget about the negative thought

      Is this has the priority rather than other things.
