The future of Oil and Gas in Oman

    • The future of Oil and Gas in Oman

There is no doubt that Oman is still heavily dependant on Oil and Gas as the major source of revenues. There is a tremendous effort under way to try and diversify the economy, but the speed and the actual tangible results seem to be rather insufficient. Oman’s oil and gas reserves are modest. There has been no major discovery or replenishment of reserves for a number of years.

In principle, with current production and depletion of pressure support and increase in water production, it won’t be long before we say goodbye to this valuable resource (oil+gas). There a number of actively pursued projects such as enhanced oil recovery, where water flooding and steam injection will be implemented/TRIED. These are trials and a great deal of risk and uncertainty is involved, not to mention they carry astronomical costs.

Are we really prepared to see another big drop in production? The next decline could be faster and difficult to reverse, let alone maintain. So as an individual, what are your plans for the potential tough days ahead. If you have kids, are you contemplating they will be working in the oil industry some day. Wait a minute! What oil industry?

Anyway, we should all awaken to this reality and contribute in any way we can to sustain development. One way is by your contribution right here as to what you think is best to minimise reliance on oil and gas.
    • Thanks bro for the interesting topic. Indeed, Oman oil production is declining year after year. But the gas production is not the case, Oman still have many reserviors that hold good amount of gas according to PDO and LNG.
The production decline initiates from the fact that Oman still lacks the latest technologies, and we are still having fields that are not set for production, but generally the production is declining.

Other sources can be tourism and this really needs good and big efforts and clever minds to make Oman one of the most attractive places in the world. We al7amd lelah have very nice veiws and environments, but unfortunately they not set properly for tourism.

Agriculture and fishing can also work if again we have the clever people to develop them.

Anyway, am sick now, and i really don't even know what am writing.

      Thanks $$g
    • Thank you oMaNi_AsLi
In fact it is very good topic. I would like to have some comprhensive disscussion
You are saying that, and I quote, There is a tremendous effort under way to try and diversify the economy
But you never told us what kind of efforts were there? away from oil industry of course

Our dear Albarram82 answers the questions but he adds, (this really needs good and big efforts and clever minds, again we have the clever people). Now let us say it, why thinking of oil only as the basis of our economy? and why we only talking about it overlooking something said here
      CLEVER PEOPLE

All possible solutions you mention takes CLEVER PEOPLE to do it, so why not think of those people and how to make them, in other words why don't we invest in people? In fact we did, and we are still doing, so many projects and efforts have already taken place

One could say, well, yes we have but it is being done as it should be, I would agree myself. Like we talked in a topic here called "omanization" and I think we talked enough there

Let us be different, and consider oil as a plus and extra resources and not merely the only one, let us talk away from oil, let us forget about oil
There are countries who do not produce oil at all, who import oil, and are doing well
let us learn from them, let us try to do what they are doing
Some of these countries have so much revenue out of exporting people, CLEVER and working people, that we still asking for more of them

Let us be clever, let us tell the world to bet on us, the indivuduals, let us show them we are capable of doing everything

After all, let us think in a different way from the one we are now, public sector and a salary every 30 days

so much to say, and I am sure who is coming after me would discuss what we have said and add, and and put out pospects for the future of our country and us all
    • Don't worry that much indeed. I can assure you that our oil will last at least for the next 15 years. It's not the quantity of Oil that scares me most. It’s the price of oil or they being successful to replace the oil as the first power source..

We are doing some off- shore explorations right now in Musandam area, where we expect to see some big rigs..
But still you are right, we got to start looking for more sources before we cry later on..
We should not depend heavily on oil 100% but rather find the alternatives for it from now...That's what I love about Dubai and some other neighboring countries. They are so independent on oil now...Trading, Industry and tourism are big things and we should not take them for granted...

Just remember that the more we thank Allah for what we have, the more blessings from him we get...

      Have Fun

      The Ghost
    • The GHOST ,is right that they have discovered in 1997 a new place called harweel its has almost for the next 60 years the aim in 2 years to produce 100,000 to 150.000 barrels a day and now new project in mukhazna is coming there are around 2500 wells we have one problem he is the south of oman thats is the oil is very thik to take out and its dangerous with poisonus gas called H2S its about 40,000 mbps well if u smell just 1000 mpbs it could kill you so now they have brought an american company to come and take out the oil cause it difficult some how well this is what i got so far plus now pdo has a open a new department call GGC its focused on producing gas we went to expand our gas production since in the PDO ground there alot of gas flooting in (saih rool ) a place near (qarn al-alam)so this is a good news too recently we have just started offshore production near musandam a company called nouvus took over so its going on well
    • I know about mukhazna and harween...There are doing something about the H2S and there are bringing the latest technologies for it too...
Soon we will be using these two sites safely.
That's what PDO is doing right now...Collecting all the gas they get from different site and rigs in Seih Rol and then send it over to LNG Oman in sur where they export it to some other countries...

Let just play it down and see what's going to happened.??
I think our parents were eating Dates, Sehnah and Qashe3 and we won't die if we do the same really...It's not like we have been living in the moon...The average Omani family has been living with simple requirements and we won't be affected that much..
But it won't harm if we prepare ouselves to such national tragedy

Tenderness.. you can have mine.. hehe
      Please send me more details
      :)
I hope it is not this women football stuff
      :P
What our economy needs is proper management and proper Surveillance, regardless of the amount of income, and regardless of how this income is gained

I hope more and more people would listen to you Mrs.Unfaithful, I totally agree with you
    • We don't lack Management at all, we have what I call it ( Selfish Management) those who works in an Omani private or even government organization would know it...
They care most about the Outcome and nothing they do for Income...In simple words. They would care how much a company can earn annually but who the fuxx would care how their employees would do it??...
In this country and most of the Arab ones too, Employees are not a Capital Assets, they are Expendable Assets...
How the hell would you want us to graduate or make excellent Managers then??
I'll tell you something Unfaithfull, yes we dam need good managers out here…
