Why Does English Literature Focus Alot on Stories

Hi every body
Actually, i have been woundering about this question since i was at the beginning of my study in english. I want to know why does english literature focus alot in teaching stories and novels to the students of english ?
Morever, you can observe that lots of American and British read stories and novels when they are travelling somewhere else

In fact, i dont know what the answer is. I think by reading stories u can learn alot of vocabularies; morever, it improves your writing in english and it opens your imagination alot when u think about something .

its like asking why the study of Mathmatics focus on numbers???s

well, because thats what its all about!!!!!i

Literature is creative writing, writings with sense of imagination and some depth in vocabulary and in meaning .. which is of course what novels, stories and Poetry are all about

The study of English litrarure to the study of the beauty of writings.. the art of writing... and not really about getting information like history books or science books .. which thier purpose is informative only

ur right..

I think .. literature means novels, stories & poems..

because of that u study literature ..

western people acknowledge that reading stories is very beneficial especially in building vocabulary and writing skills.

so, as more u read as more u get new data and information..

now on, keep studying literature without wondering about its character..

I was to stop where you said western people read stories and novels while travelling to see Mrs.Unfaithful picked the same stop and asked what you meant then, and

responded but talked in general about them reading stories but I guess Mrs.Unfaithful found, just like me, no relation between your main point and reading while travelling

Anyway, they are different points and I guess we talked about this and said that they read to pass time or simply waste time, and I am talking in general. They do not go into bragging as we do while travelling neither they do sleep so they read
Most they read are action sories, suspense, love & romance, and I guess, and once again I am talking in general, not for the sake of their language
