      Today I am going to ask you an important question, which may help other students in writing their essays about this topic.

      As we know that the revaluation of the Internet has made the wide world as a small village, so it is almost available in many Omani houses. Many people like to use the Internet for seeking some information like educational, financial information…etc.

      At the same time, there are many people who misuse the Internet in their houses. To support my point, I met a student in the school, and I asked him " what do you used the internet for?" He told me that he used it only for chatting. I asked him " Do you talk in Arabic or English. How many hours do you spend in the chat?" He answered, " I talked in Arabic and I stayed for about 3-5 hours per a day
      ."


      My questions are :

      In your opinions, why do many people misuse the Internet?

      Is it because of the parents?

      Is it because of the teachers who teach computer?

      Is it because of the students themselves

    • well, from the example you gave, i dont think that the young man was "misusing" the internet. Cyber-chat is made for people to.. well just chat and waste some time .. i dont see any "misusing" in this... this is what chat is made to be used for

      But if you meant that he is ONLY using the internet for chatting and nothing else, then i would say he is just a little ignorant about the internet .. or he is just too shallow and empty-headed to ever be concerned by anything else !!!!! dont you think???s


      On the other hand, I do agree with you that Internet is being misused in so many ways, illegal tradings, pornoraphy, stealing information, and illegal practices and activitis that some are very disturbing to even mention... and the even more disturbing fact is that who ever uses the internet can easily have access to any of those.. and with the tendendcy to fall for it, the consequences could be really REALLY upseting

      free time.. boredom.... and curiosity.... given the person's actual enjoyment and love of the misuse !!!i

      most parents know MUCH less about the internet than thier kids... so that really cannot be it

      Is it because of the teachers who teach computer?
      i would, to some extent, agree. Those are probably the best people to educate the kids on how to benefit the most of the WWW

      Is it because of the students themselves
      As with ANY other abd habit, if the student himself is not willing to know the good and leave the bad... then probably there is nothing that would change his mind.. unless (s)he learn it the hard way

    • The internet is there for every body to use, and since you confined your discussion to Oman and Omanis, I believe that statistics and surveys tell us that a small number or percentage of homes have internet and most of them had it recently and the number is growing day by day
      What I wanted to say, it is something new to the majority, so let them enjoy it and discover it, and discover what is bad and what is good for them. Oh well, let us come to define what is good and what is bad. Chat? Pornography? Misleading information? Who knows? It is a relative decision here and every body has his/her own interests

      I am myself not new to the world of the internet and spend few hours a day and never felt I am misusing it or being abused by it. As long as I am not harming anybody else or simply harming myself then I am not misusing it
      I wonder why we tend to think we are misusing it and I guess if we can say or answer the question ARE we misusing it the we can ask WHY

      We all need to use our heads, and brains, in every step we make online, decide what is best for you, never have the intention to harm anybody, let your senses tell you when you are, and stop it. Being abused? Stop and think, think again, listen to your heart, listen to your head

      Well I know it is long topic to talk about but as I always said I would like the writer take part and get the discussion moving


      I believe once people know what is the internet, no one would misuse it, and again I am talking about us, the good people Inshallah, in Oman or elsewhere.

      Parents do their part and do what they think is best for their children, children would do whatever they want to and parents should learn to teach their kids to go for what is best for themselves and use their brains once they are in a position to start using their heads on their own
      AND whatever teachers do they will not come near what the parents do who have the responsibility of bringing their kids up and would worry about them
