Historically and specifically during the civil wars in Europe and other parts of the world, solders used to write O.K. as a sign among themselves which means
"0 Killed"
or zero killed to inform thier team members that no one killed and everything is alright

So from that time onwards, when people say OK, they mean everything is alright or fine...etc.
