Salam to everyone.
this is my first participation in this Saha.
I decided to share some English proverbs and Idioms that are used frequently in every day speech. today's proverb is
actions speak louder than words
which means that deads are more effective than mere talk.

the idiom of today is:
let's pull all our cards on the table = to be frank and honest

in Arabic we say
الحاجه أم الإختراع

our idiom of today is:
Go along with = agree
e.g I go along with Ameera = I agree with Ameera

salam to all
the proverb of today says:
"one apple every day keeps the doctor away"
and if u want to make it fun say
if the doctor is cute forget the fruit

so keep eating your apples to be healthy

the idiom of today is:
stab in the backit means betrayal
e.g. I was stabbed in the back by my assistant ( I was betrayed or cheated)

our proverb today is very short and meaningful:
TIME FLIESand time does really fly ...I cant blieve we are in 2003

the idiom of today is :-
pain in the neck = somebody who is always a nuisance
e.g. Ali is really a pain in the neck...which means that he bothers everyone with his way of talking or thinking.

.idioms are used by both Amercans and British.
Some idioms are used more frequently than others and I will write only the common ones.

today I will tell a very common idiom ..
that used when someone is bothering you..you would say:

GET OFF MY BACK = stop harassing me

or GET OFF HIS BACK

our proverb today is :
A FRIEND IN NEED IS A FRIEND INDEED
this proverb is equivalent to the arabic proverb:
الصديق وقت الضيق

salam to all,
Sam is such a sensitive person and takes offense upon the slightest
pretext. You really need to handle him with kid gloves.
Another example:
We could see the bomb disposal team handling the bomb with kid gloves.
today's idiom is : HANDLE WITH KID GLOVES.

the proverb of today is:
History repeat itself
التاريخ يعيد نفسه
ودمتم للوطن ذخرا

We can use this idiom a lot with kids

because we should be carefully when we treat children or talk to them because they are very sensetive but some of them are stubbern and they need this way of treatment|a

the proverb that came to my mind today is a bit long:
When poverity comes in at the door,
love flies out of the window

poverity here means no money and no anything "poor man"
What do u think of this proverb?DO u believe in it?
well ...there are people who think of money too much till they get tired.

Gary left the house this morning before sunup. He was itching to start his new job.
this is our idiom today " itching to start"
another example:
"Can we get on with it?" Marcy exclaimed. I am itching to start
that new machine to see how it runs!

Is anyone here itching to start something?
I'm itching to start wearing my new skirt.hahahah:D

Salam to everyone,
today's proverb says:
"no pain no gain" this proverb works for 3rd secondary students
who are suppose to feel the pain to gain success later on.

our idiom today says:
Ride a dead horseit means never change one's way of doing something.
example:
ARE U STILL RIDING A DEAD HORSE? THERE IS NO LIFE IN YOUR PROGRAME. YES , I WOULD SAY IT REALLY IS A DEAD HORSE.

I really remembered my year in 3rd Secondary:confused:. It was like the hell$$t And I really feel sorry when i see students in this stage because i know they are suffering a lot and working hard because this year is going to limite their future$$7

قص صبع ولا تغير طبع

Because today I learn a nwe word and I read it twice

The first time i found it today when i was reading a story but i didn't search for it's meaning and now i read it in this topic..So i don't think that i'm going to forget it$$e

THIS IS THE PROVERB OF TODAY

OUR IDIOM SAYS:
SALT IT A WAYEXAMPLE: SALT IT A WAY WHILE YOU HAVE IT, MY GRANFATHER USED TO SAY. IT NEVER HURT ANY ONE TO SAVE A LITTLE MONEY!

Well i really have a problem with this proverb|y
It is my only problrm:confused:,,I really tried to sleep early but i couldn't and my parents usually recommend me to go early to bed$$t but that never help me at all..because i don't feel asleep when i go to bed early and i prefer to see a movie or readinga story before i sleep:D

Thanks dear sister for such an extraordinary topic#d. Idiomatic english is such an important part in the english language. i really enjoyed reading all the Idioms and Porverbs, you posted. I also took the previllage of gathring all the Idioms and Proverbs in one topic. I hope this doesn't bother you. I just thought that having them in one topic would be more practicle. |eMy regards

ON TOP
this is our idiom today...
example
the group managed to come out on top and win
the competition.
"as they say" Rebecca said. ' we are on top".
No one has better news broadcast than ours.

Our proverb says:
AS YOU SAW, SO SHALL YOU REAP
in Arabic we say
من زرع حصد

THERE IS NO ROSE WITHOUT A THORN
this is the new proverb...I'm not sure if we have a similar one in Arabic. I can't remember any.

the idiom says:
work like a dog = work very hard for little reward.
in Arabic we say work like a donkey

When I read this one I remember the story of the Nightingle and the red rose and I believe that all of you know it because we saw it in cartoon when we were Kidz, that if u really still remember that.It is a wonderful story and it teaches us to sacrifice to have the happiness for our friends and our lovers.The nightingle sacrificed her life for a red rose to give to the lover student so he can give it to his lover in order to let him to dance with her$$e

Salam to everyone,
I hope that everyone enjoyed ther holiday of Eid.
our proverb today says:
KEEP SOMETHING FOR A RAINY DAY
i should say this to myself coz i spent all my money
during the hliday and now I'm broke. In arabic we say:
القرش الأبيض ينفع في اليوم الأسود
I'm having black days these days but I don't have any money
to whiten my days.
:sad

our idiom say:
MONEY TALKS = money can influence
they do indeed but not with all people.
there are people who do'nt think of money much and money doesn't determine how they live. others lives are determined
by money i.e. the more they have the happier they are.
I believe that money talks and shout sometimes!!!!!

Nice proverb. I also should try and implement this proverb, as i never could actually manage to save money#e. I should try to think a lot more about the comming days rather than just thinking of living the day

As for the idiom, well sadly enough, we all know that money actually does talk. At least it has its own language, which is perfectly understood by those who are greedy #hand immoral. However, and as you said, there are still those who would never speak the language of money

in Arabic we say: الإتحاد قوه

the idiom says:
KICK THE BUCKET = die
e.g. I heared thatt old Sam kicked the bucket. meaning: old Sam died.
