As part of the “Refurbishment of the Power and A/C Systems” in the Centre for Information Systems the contractor company needs to upgrade the main power distribution panel for the Centre. The upgrade is essential to assure the maintenance of IT services in the foreseeable future.
This work necessitates a full power shutdown in the Centre for Information
Systems/Centre for Educational Technology building. We are now
scheduling the required power shutdown for the 21st January (Thursday) 8am to 7pm. (This was originally requested for the 14th January, but, owing to examinations, was deferred).

During the power outage all CIS based IT services will need to be shutdown (including the SQUNet, Internet facilities, E-mail, and the like).
Laboratory based PC operations may be impacted also, since we will also be shutting down our domain controllers. Power provision in other buildings/areas will not be impacted.

The contractor has assured us that it will be able to maintain this schedule and expects no "overrun" for this planned outage. The CIS will use its best efforts to quickly restore service once reliable power has been reestablished.
Would you please advise the CIS before 1pm on Wednesday 20th if you have any planned events or activities for Thursday 21st that absolutely require
CIS services to be available. If we receive no notification then we will
assume we can proceed with the work as detailed above.
