    • The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
      Whoever fasts during Ramadan
with faith and seeking his reward from Allah
will have his past sins forgiven.
Whoever prays during the nights in Ramadan
with faith and seeking his reward from Allah
will have his past sins forgiven.
And he who passes Lailat al-Qadr in prayer
with faith and seeking his reward from Allah
will have his past sins forgiven
      (Bukhari, Muslim).

      So
we should work hard in this month
      as much as we can
and Follow what our prophet peace been upon him
to have our past sins forgiven

    • Maybe you want to prepare for Ramadan
but between work, family, and any other activities
you just have no idea how to fit in
      Preparing for Ramadan time

Instead of making ‘preparing for Ramadan’
something separate from your daily activities
MAKE your daily activities a means of preparation for Ramadan

      For example
perhaps your mother asked you to buy something from the suq
on the day you finally had time to read a few extra pages of Qur’an
      Instead of feeling upset
and feeling like you have lost a great preparation for ramadan opportunity
      make the intention
that you are went to suq
to please Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala and prepare for ramadan
      by obeying your mother
      helping your family members
      building ties of kinship
      and the list continues.
The point is that preparing for ramadan
does not have to be some magnificent
      enormous
      extra-special thing
that needs to be done at a certain time of the day
      Many of your daily actions
can be turned into ramadan preparation actions
      with a sincere intention
      insha’Allah

      :)

    • Asking Allah to forgive your brothers and sisters

“Whoever seeks forgiveness for believing men and believing woman,
Allah will write for him a good deed for each believing man and believing woman.”

It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah said
“The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam)
      said:
‘Whoever says subhanAllah wa bi hamdih
(praise and glory be to Allah)
      100 times
      morning and evening
      his sins will be erased
even if they are like the foam on the sea.”

      If a person says
“SubhanAllah” (glory be to Allah) 100 times
a thousand good deeds are recorded for him
and a thousand bad deeds are wiped away

Remember Allah when you go shopping

“Whoever enters a market and says:
‘Laa ilaha illallah wahdahu la shareeka lah
      lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu
yuhyi wa yumeetu wa huwa hayyun laa yamoot
      bi yadihil khair
wa huwa ‘ala kulli shayin qadeer’

[there is nothing worthy of worship except Allah
      alone without partner
to Him belongs dominion and praise
He causes life and death and
He is the Living and does not die
In His Hand is all the good
and He is over all things competent]

      Allah will write for him/her
a million good deeds and erase
      a million bad deeds and
      raise him a million levels

      :)

    • To help condition your heart for
      this blessed month
intensify your worship before ramadan begins
      Just a small
      consistent amount is enough
The Prophet, sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam told us

“The deeds most loved by Allah
      are those done regularly
      even if they are small.”

      For example
if I always pray 2 rakats of sunnah after ishaa
from this day until ramadan begins
      and even through ramadan
let me make the intention that
I will now pray 2 extra rakats of nafela after ishaa
And every time I pray these extra 2 rakats
which are more than what I normally pray
      let me remember that
I am doing these with the intention of asking Allah
to help me be prepared to strive and exert my utmost effort
      during Ramadan

      :)

    • This is the month to ask for everything
both related to this life and the next
Let us not wait until the last 10 nights
      to make special duaas
and then once Eid passes realize
that we had completely forgotten about fifty other things
we needed to make duaa for
Let us start making our lists now
and add to it as more things come our way
Insha’Allah this should help us remember
to make constant duaa in this month
      where duaa is accepted
and help our hearts pour out to
the One Who can make those duaas happen
      subhanahu wa ta’ala

      :)

    • Praying all of your fard prayers?
      Praying all of your sunnahs?
      Reading the entire Qur’an?
      Giving $1 charity a day?
Leaving one serious sin that you’ve been trying
to get away from for some time now?
Sincerely turning completely back to Allah?

      Write out a list
put them somewhere you will see them
and make duaa for your success in fulfilling these objectives

      :)

    • Look at your objectives
and try to make a plan on
how to actualize those objectives in this month

      For example
perhaps you are really struggling to pray your sunnah prayers
      In this month
realize the enormity of the ajr of praying the sunnah prayers
think that perhaps these sunnahs will be
the deeds that will be so heavy on your scale
of good deeds when you are intense need of them
      on yowm al qiyamah
      Therefore
fight to keep doing them all throughout Ramadan
If you can’t pray your 2 rakats after dhur right away
make sure to do them as soon as you get a chance

      Thus
your plan might look something like this

      Objective:
Pray all of my fard prayers.
      Method:
Envision myself on the day of judgment
seeing the insha’Allah weight of praying my sunnah
      consistently during this month
Make sure to pray sunnah salah immediately after salah
      If I cannot
do it as soon as the opportunity arises
don’t let myself put it off!

Another example is that of finishing the Qur’an

      Objective:

Finishing the entire Qur’an in this month

      Method:
Read 4 pages of the Qur’an after every salah
      5 prayers X 4 pages = 20 pages
      20 pages= about 1 juz
      1 juz X 30= the entire Qur’an

      :)

    • (It was) the month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur’aan, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs for the guidance and the criterion (between right and wrong). So whoever of you sights (the crescent on the first night of) the month (of Ramadan i.e. is present at his home), he must observe Sawm (fasts) that month…”

"Allaah has made Laylat al-Qadr in this month, which is better than a thousand months, as Allaah says...The Night of Al-Qadr is better than a thousand months. Therein descend the angels and the Rooh [Jibreel (Gabriel)] by Allaah's Permission with all Decrees, there is peace until the appearance of dawn."

    • Advice for Ramadan
      from QSS

In Ramadan Paradise opens its doors, Hell closes its and Satans are chained`Arfajah said "We were with `Utbah ibn Farqad while he was discussing Ramadan. A companion of the Prophet entered upon the scene. When `Utbah saw him, he became shy and stopped talking. The man [the companion] spoke about Ramadan, saying "I heard the Messenger of Allah say during Ramadan: " The gates of Hell are closed, the gates of Paradise are opened, and the devils are in chains. An angel calls out : 'O you who intend to do good deeds, have glad tidings. O you who intend to do evil, refrain, until Ramadan is completed. [Ahmad and an-Nasa'i]Fasting in Ramadan; a shield from HellThe Messenger of Allah, salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam, said : " When Allah created Paradise and Hell-fire, He sent Jibreel [Gabriel] to Paradise, saying: Look at it and at what I have prepared therein for its inhabitants. The Prophet (S) said: So he came to it and looked at it and at what Allah had prepared therein for its inhabitants. The Prophet (S) said: So he returned to Him and said: By your glory, no one hears of it without entering it. So He ordered that it be encompassed by forms of hardship, and He said: Return to it and look at what I have prepared therein for its inhabitants. The Prophet (S) said: So he returned to it and found that it was encompassed by forms of hardship. Then he returned to Him and said: By Your glory, I fear that no one will enter it. He said: Go to Hell-fire and look at it and what I have prepared therein for its inhabitants, and he found that it was in layers, one above the other. Then he returned to Him and said: By Your glory, no one who hears of it will enter it. So He ordered that it be encompassed by lusts [or desires]. Then He said: Return to it. And he returned to it and said: By Your glory, I am frightened that no one will escape from entering it.[at-Tirmithi and al-Hakim among others].Therefore, when you know, O Dear Sister, that fasting subdues the desires and reduces their severity, and that it is these desires and lusts that lead to Hell Fire, then you will see how fasting comes between a fasting person and Hell Fire and you will rush to fast in Ramadan and after Ramadan in the best possible way.
      Al-Qur'an rather talks about the reward of fasting and there are verses which general meaning infers that those who obey Allah will be saved from Hell, and fasting is a form of obeying Allah. We will leave the verses that talk about the reward to the section related to Paradise. However, the Ahadith of our beloved Prophet Mohammad, salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam, are clear in this regard;
Abu Said al-Khudri reported that the Messenger of Allah, said: " No servant fasts on a day in the path of Allah except that Allah removes the Hell Fire seventy years further away from his face. " [Bukhari and Muslim] Abu Sa`eed al-Khudri relates that the Messenger of Allah salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam said : "Fasting is a shield with which a servant protects himself from the Fire " [Ahmad, Sahih]
`Uthman Ibn Abil-`Aas relates that the Messenger of Allah salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam said : " Whoever fasts a day in the way of Allah, Allah places between him and the Fire a trench like that between heavens and the earth ". [at-Tirmithi and at-Tabarani, sahih]
Abu Huraira narrated that Allah's Messenger, salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam, said : " When the month of Ramadan starts, the gates of the heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed and the devils are chained. " [Bukhari]
The Messenger of Allah, salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam said : " When it is the first night of Ramadahn the evil devils are chained. The gates of Fire are locked- not a single gate is opnened, and the gates of Paradise are opened- not a single gate is locked, and a caller calls out :'O seeker of good come forward, and O seeker of evil withhold, and there are many whom Allah frees from the Fire - and that is every night. [at-Tirmithi, Ibn Majah, and Ibn Khuzaimah : Hasan]
Abu Hurairah reported that the Prophet, salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam, climbed upon the mimbar (pulpit) and said: " Aameen [O Allah grant it], aameen, aameen". So it was said, "O Messenger of Allah, you climbed upon the mimbarand said : "aameen, aameen, aameen"? So he said :" Jibraa'eel, `alaihi assalam, came to me and said, 'Whoever reaches the month of Ramadan and does not have [his sins] forgiven and so enters Fire, then may Allah distance him, say aameen ". So I said "aameen". [Ibn Khuzaimah, Ahmad and al-Baihaqui : Sahih]
Jabir, radhiya Allahu `anhu relates that the Messenger of Allah, salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam said :" In every day and every night, during the month of Ramadan, there are people to whom Allah grants freedom from the Fire, and there is for every Muslim a supplication which he can make and will be granted ". [al-Bazzaar, Ahmad and Ibn Majah; Sahih]
In the famous hadith of Mu`ath ... I said O Messenger of Allah, tell me of an act which will take me into Paradise and keep me away from Hell-Fire. He said: you have asked me about a major matter, yet it easy for him for whom Allah Almighty makes it easy. You should ..., You should fast in Ramadan .... Then he (the Prophet) said : shall I not show you the gates of goodness ? Fasting is a shield . ..[at-Tirmithi]
We pray to Allah to make for us this Ramadan a shield from Hell Fire.

    • Things You Can do It....In Ranadan

The Prophet said: "Whoever prays during the night of Qadr with faith and hoping for its reward will have all of his previous sins forgiven." (Bukhari and Muslim recorded from Abu Huraira).

Here are some tips of things we can do on the Night of Power and the time before and after it.

      1. Take a vacation for Allah
We take a break from our jobs for almost everything in life. Why not this time to focus on worshiping and thanking our Creator.

If this is not possible at least take a few days off if you can. This can make it easier to stay awake at night to do extra Ibadah, not having to worry about getting to work the next day.

It will also facilitate doing Itikaf.

      2. Do Itikaf
It was a practice of the Prophet to spend the last ten days and nights of Ramadan in the masjid for Itikaf.

Those in Itikaf stay in the masjid all this time, performing various forms of zikr (the remembrance of Allah), like doing extra Salat, recitation and study of the Quran. They do not go outside the masjid except in case of emergencies, therefore, they sleep in the masjid. Their families or the masjid administration takes care of their food needs.

Itikaf of a shorter period of time, like one night, a day or a couple of days is encouraged as well.

      3. Make this special Dua
Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, said: I asked the Messenger of Allah: 'O Messenger of Allah, if I know what night is the night of Qadr, what should I say during it?' He said: 'Say: O Allah, You are pardoning and You love to pardon, so pardon me.' "(Ahmad, Ibn Majah, and Tirmidhi).

The transliteration of this Dua is "Allahumma innaka `afuwwun tuhibbul `afwa fa`fu `annee"

      4. Recite the Quran
Perhaps you can choose Surahs or passages from the Quran which you have heard in Tarawih this past Ramadan to recite.

If you attend a class where the recitation of the Quran is taught, this is a great time to put your knowledge into practice.

      5. Reflect on the meaning of the Quran
Choose the latest Surah or Surahs you've heard in Tarawih and read their translation and Tafseer. Then think deeply about their meaning and how it affects you on a personal level.

(If you want to study the Quran with more understanding, check out Way to the Quran and Access to Quranic Arabic.

      6. Get your sins wiped out
Abu Huraira narrated that the Messenger said: Whoever stands (in prayer) in Laylatul Qadr while nourishing his faith with self-evaluation, expecting reward from Allah, will have all of his previous sins forgiven. [Bukhari and Muslim).

Don't just pray using the shorter Surahs that you know. Try to make your prayers longer, deeper and meaningful. If you are familiar with longer Surahs, read the translation and explanation and then pray reciting these Surahs, carefully reflecting on the meaning while you pray.

Even if you are only familiar with the shorter Surahs, read the translation and explanation beforehand, and then pray reflecting on the message of the Surahs.

This is a good way to develop the habit of concentration, even in regular prayers, where many of us tend to be fidgety and/or easily distracted.

      7. Make a personal Dua list.
Ask yourself what you really want from Allah. Make a list of each and everything, no matter how small or how big it is, whether it deals with this world or not. Allah loves to hear from us. Once this list is ready, you can do three things:

      • Ask Allah to give you those things
      • Think about what actions you have taken to get those things
      • Develop a work plan to get those things in future.

      8. Evaluate yourself.
Ask yourself those questions that need to be asked. Do an evaluation of where you are and where you are going. Let this evaluation lead you to feel happiness for the good you have done and remorse for the bad you have done. (see a short and a long evaluation guide) This latter feeling should make it easier to seek Allah's sincere forgiveness when making the Dua mentioned in tip number one above.

      9. Make long, sincere and deep Duas
One of the best times to do this is during the last part of the night.

Abu Huraira, may Allah be pleased with him, related that the Prophet said: When the last one-third of the night remains, our Lord, the Glorious One descends towards the heaven of the earth and proclaims: Who is that who supplicates for Me, and I grant his supplication? Who is that who begs Me for anything and I grant it to him? And who is that who seeks My forgiveness, and I forgive him? (Bukhari, Muslim).

That means for instance, waking up one hour before Suhoor time to ask Allah for anything and everything you want that is Halal. This can be done using the Duas of the Sunnah, but also Dua in your own language, with sincerity and conviction.

For some tips on making Dua please see the article Some personal Duas you can make.

      10. Memorize a different Dua every night
They don't have to be long. They can be just one line. And be sure to know what they mean generally at least, even if you don't know the exact translation in English.
