how i can be good in translation

      i'm sorry for that but translation wont help you that much in learning english.

      because you have to think in english to be good at english.
      i saw your translation it's quite good.that mean you're good in english but you need little more practise.
      my advice for you is to read,think and understand the text in english then translate simply in arabic just to understand it not to be profissional in translation.that if you want to learn english in the right way...


      I dont think that was his intention, because he wanted to be good in english to be able to translate, and not translate to be good in english.. certainly, learning the simple english is the easiest way, but when we are talking about academic or a bit more formal english then we do need stronger words because we wont be able to express with simple english words only..

      I believe that we should keep our english simple, but when it comes to translating, we do need to be able to use the simple and complex english.. poets could have used simple words as well and some of them really did but at the same time, to express than strong feeling, you do need a strong word, or simple word expressed in a very good way.

      but then it's not only about being good, but it is also practicing to be good in both ways, simple and complex!!! We all know that one complex word can have better meaning form few simple words, or vice versa.. so we cant always stick to the simple version of it

      I did work in translating one of the documentary movies here in Australia, and it was not an easy job to tell you the truth, because I have to think and look at it from different aspects, first literal meaning, then actual meaning, then the culture, then the audience and then complexity of the word. At the same time, i cant just write a totally different arabic translation of words that havent been said in english.. because im translating here a dialogue and i have to stick to the words said in that dialogue

      In the other topic of translating movies or part of the movies, it is good that we dont look at the subtitles and I never turn on the subtitling feature on the DVD player, but if it is a program on TV then it is a bit harder but what I do is just listen without looking at the TV so I can focus more on listening that the visual picture of whats been said

      But hey, that's my personal opinion only.. so it's OK to disagree :)

      i think to be good in any thing you have to listen to all then you can make descision
      thanks alot
      i will practice more and more
      now i have new forums for training
      hopfully work gether with more pepole who has same dream
      to be good in translation
      ofcurse i will not forget this nice forum

      في يوم من ايام الصيف الرائعة وتحديدا في تاريخ 1/9/1994م وفي الساعة 8:30 صباحا كان هذا اليوم من اجمل ايام حياتي هو اول يوم اقضية في قصر الحروف والالوان وبهجة الاحلام في جنة الرياض إنها مدرستي التي ها انا اخطو اليها بقدمي الصغيرتين ممسكة بيد أمي حاملة تلك الحقيبة الصغيرة على ظهري أتقدم خطوة خطوة استمع لضحكات الاطفال وانظر لابتسامة امي اشعر بالامل ونشوة الفرح انا مستعدة للدخول الى المكان الذي سينور حياتي .

      مااجمل اللحظات التي تجمعنا بالاصدقاء والاصحاب هي رائعة المدرسة لانها تعلمنا معنى الحب والاخلاص والاحترام والتعاون وحتى التعامل.

      لقد كان اول يوم لي حلم لن انساه حفر في ذاكرتي وسيبقى موجود لن تمحية الازمان فالماضي ذكرى والذكرى شيء جميل.

      علمتني المدرسة أشياء كثيرة لن انساها وعرفت من خلالها الاصدقاء الذين ما زلت اعرفهم واصدقاء اتمنى ان التقي بهم رغم تلك السنين الطويلة ومن يدري قد تقودنا الفرص والصدف لكي نلتقي مرة اخرى .

      لم ينتهي ذالك اليوم في المدرسة بالنسبة لي لان الاحلام عمرها لا تنتهي اذا كانت رائعة فيال الروعة حين تمسك ذالك القلم لتكتب تلك الحروف... أ ، ب ، ت ،......... وتلك الكلمات .... الامل ، الحب ، الاخلاص،...... شعرت بالفخر لمجرد الامساك بالقلم وعند نهاية اليوم عدت الى المنزل فرحة مسرورة.

      وها انا اصبحت كما يقال وكالة انباء ( الاطفال في ذالك السن جميعهم متشابهون) أحكي لوالدي ماذا جرى معي في هذا اليوم الرائع فقد قابلت تلك المعلمة الحنونة والاصدقاء الرائعين واخبرتهم كم هي جميلة المدرسة .

      شيء جميل ان تحمل ذكريات من قديم الزمان والاجمل ان تعلم ان الذكرى لا تصبح ماضي فقط وانما ماضي تعيش معه وتتلذذ كل لحظة فية ان كان هذا الماضي جميل ام سيء .

      وتبقى الاقلام تخط ما تحملة قلوبنا من ذكريات على صفحات من الاوراق تبقى محفوظة في صناديق من الذكريات نغلقها بمفاتيح الزمن ولن يفتحها الا عودة الربيع والامل .

    • One day, on a lovely summer day, at 8:30 on September 1st 1994, was a day to remember, it was my first day I go to school. I remember holding my mother’s hand with my little bag on my back looking around me and enjoying other children’s smiles and enjoying most my mother’s big smile, a smile giving me all the joy and hope as I am starting my first day at school.
      How beautiful moments being with friends, how great is the school that teaches us what love, devotion, and respect are.

      My first day at school was a day to remember, and will stay that way, and when memories become a past, all will remind me with such great days

      School taught me many things that I will not ever forget, it introduced me to so many friends who I still know and remember, friends I hope to meet again despite we did not meet for a very long time, but who knows, we may meet one day

      My first day at school day never ended, dreams never die, the dream holding a pencil writing my first letters, A, B, C, and my first words, hope, love and devotion.
      I was so proud holding the pencil, the day ended and I had to go home full of joy and happiness

      Here I am at home, talking like a radio, telling my father all the things I did on that lovely day, the day I met my lovely teacher and great friends. I told him how great the school was

      It is nice to have memories, and it is nice too to learn that memories do not become a past only but a past you live in and with no matter good or bad
