hmm you can do only one thing

      which is write & read
      --------------------------------
i used to have the same problem as yours long time ago but i went and bought some stories and read them and then try to summaries that story and let other ppl check it for me.

you can do the same thing

or u can try to write some pomes or short stories in english and then

post it over here so we can read it and then point the mistakes in it

the other way is try to chat in english with some one who has better experiance in english

these are the ways that i did to improve my english writing

      and belive me

      chatting is the best

it will also improve ur typing speed at the same time

now i can write about 50 words in english in one min
    • Thank you Candlelight
      شكرا التنين الاحمر

You may have wondered Candlelight whu we start learning grammar in our first step in learning any language, English is no exepion
Once you know the rules, that is the grammar and when we use every single rule then I am sure our writing will be close to perfect

What you have written Cadlelight tells that you have a very good command of the language, and no doubt as
      التنين الاحمر
mentioned, the more we write the more we know, the more we write better
When reading something or listening to something try to concentrate and learn, keep it in your head and never let go

There is a topic at this saha talking about spelling mistakes and it worths reading. In fact there are some useful topics over here and one would lose nothing reading

I hope what we have said is of some help and assistance

      :)
    • Dear Candlelight

Take this for granted, if you want to be a good speaker, be first a good listener and if you want to be a good writer be first a good reader.

I am telling you this out of a personal real experience. Few years ago, my writing was like you wouldn’t believe. It was so terrible. I love reading so much and I have whole lots of books in all areas wherever I go, all over the places in Oman, when I travel, in my car, in my office… . Of course, my reading habit was developed when I was less than 10 years old. I am now getting to my 30’s. But in my childhood and teens, I was only reading in Arabic but in my early twenties I started reading in English. The beginning was so taught and I had to refer to the dictionary more than often. I posted some helpful tips on the techniques you better approach to effective reading in my post located at :
      oman0.net/forum/showthread.php?t=52786

Develop the reading habit, read on whatever you love to know about. Reading is a paradise Candlelight!! It makes you live in more than one world believe me!

By being a good reader and listener, I don’t mean comprehending the given information only. Beyond that, you have to be observant and keep an open eye on new expressions and usages. Syntax is a very essential part to a writer; syntax is the composition of vocabulary and grammar in a harmonic manner that gives a sensible and correctly built meaning.

For example, from a forwarded email I received sometime ago:

“….and said, "Sweetheart, I know. You see, I was standing at the window and I saw the whole thing. But because I love you, I forgave you. I was just wondering how long you would let Sally make a slave of you."…

Look at the phrase “….let Sally make a slave of you”.
Look at this expression (make a slave of you), it is very understandable but can you benefit from it? How can you use it? There must be a rule, the rule is [make (something) of (somebody)] . now here we are observant, we can extract expressions and shape in a way that fits our uses. Now some one can say ( I post in oman0.net to make friends of its members), (I don’t like to make fun of people). (my coworkers is so arrogant and he is trying to make a boss of himself) and now I can come up with an uncountable number of correct similar phrases because I got the template and I know how to use it.

So there you keep an open eye and look at the expressions and sentences and see the logic behind them and if you come up with more expressions for your uses.

One serious problem with non-native English speakers is their very wordy writing. Why? Because they don’t have enough stock of expressions and grammatical usages, that would shorten their writing. Lengthy writing is very undesirable in English. To overcome this problem:

      - Memorize idiomatic expressions.
      - Memorize phrasal verbs.
Phrasal verbs are very important in making your writing more understandable and les wordy.
He entered the room suddenly and by force = He broke into the room.
I couldn’t make an advantage of that opportunity = I passed up that opportunity.

You see how beautiful the language sounds when we use fewer words. Check phrasal verbs at: owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/esl/eslphrasal.html

I don’t agree with Al-Taneen Al-A7mar on chatting. Chatting can be a real destruction to your English. A few people are those who care for grammar in chat. Even the expressions used there are rarely valid for formal and scholastic writing which you care more about. I am sure!

      Good Luck with your endeavors!
    • Hi to all
and nice to see you all again :)
I do really have doubt that you remember me ~!@q
Anyway, it is nice to see you all again and I have to say that this topic attracts my attention from its title |a because i am also one of those people who tried very hard to seek for a good future in English writing.

I liked what Inquisitive said about reading and writing and I totally agree with him. I also like reading so much and i always keep reading a story after a story for different writers from different generations and Ages.
Reading does not just help you to pick up the idioms and expressions but it also enhance your mind and your vocabulary. Reading let you have a background about many things.

but the question is still not answered, how we can make our writing perfect without any mistakes in both spelling and grammatical side $$t
It is very easy. You have to go over your writing more than 3 times. In each time you review your writing, you will discover by yourself your own mistakes. Besides, you will try to add and delete and try to make your writing looks understandable and perfect :)

I think there is a question i still didn't answer, who should review my writing? :)
You are right, we have to let someone else to read our writing
and I will be gald to help you to review your writing but you should at first read your own writing many times :)
So, whenever you need someone to review it for you, just send it to me before you submitting it 2 or 3 days because i can not promise you to finish in one the same day you send it.

      Good luck to you
      your sister

I do believe that chatting is somehow helpful in learning English if we use the right chat room where we could practice English with some native speakers or even with people who can speak and write English fluently :)
To me, chatting helped me a lot to improve my writing and that was through discussing and exchanging my writing with right people. So, all what we have to do is just to choose the right place to chat in and with the right people.
Besides that, as Alteneed Ala7mer said, it increased your speed in writing and to me it helped me to think in ENglish and write while i am chatting with them. :)

It is just an opinion from my own poor experience.
      My regards

      Well :)
You have a point. You could be right especially if you have a good experience with it. I might posted that opinion because I am not a chat person and my attitide about chatting is always negative! Thanks for the comment and sorry for my ignorance!

In the end, it is just a matter of opinions and we are here exchanging opinions and ideas and we should always remember that everything has negative and positive attitudes. :)
